Commonly overlooked, viewing angle control is the easiest most efficient way to improve the performance of an LED system, keeping the power consumption the same and increasing the system’s lifespan.

Edge-lit LED systems are capable of high power and high brightness at wide horizontal/vertical viewing angles.

To generate good contrast and viewability at wider angles means to run the system at its maximum capacity or to add extra LEDs to the strip. In either case, the system will generate more heat, which will shorten its lifespan and increase power usage and cost.

Selection of appropriate viewing angles for the final application is as important as contrast and viewability in LED backlight design.
