Calculating Light Output Profile
Controlling light distribution depends on several components, which aid in the selection of the appropriate optical film for your application:

  A. Type of light source
  B. Distance between LEDs/bulbs
  C. Angular output of light source
  D. Distance between light source and optic
  E. Diffusion angle of the film

Collimated Light

For collimated light sources such as lasers, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the diffusion angle is noted in our datasheets.

Non-collimated Light

The final output angle will vary based on the angular variation of the input source. Diffusion films will incerase the angle of the initial source, but the amount of increase will vary based on the diffusion angle chosed and the output angle of the initial source. An approximation of the final angle can be calculated using the following equation:

Light Output Formula

The actual FWHM of the output angle will also be dependent on the output distribution of the light source.
