Fusion Optix design, Accent 360™, is an innovative and sleek new lighting style achieved by using environmentally friendly LEDs and proprietary ADF materials. Using an edge lit design developed by our engineers, a flexible LED strip is wrapped around the custom designed waveguide which is comprised of reflector film, acrylic substrate and ADF material, the Accent 360 is a low power consuming fixture with high intensity that can last more than 50,000 hours. The acrylic substrate has a reflector film bonded to the rear to ensure that all light is recycled and little light is lost, maximizing the LED performance. The ADF is adhered to the front of the substrate to create a spread lens.  Depending on the ADF material used in the waveguide construction the dispersion can be focused narrow or wide. Together these three parts create a waveguide that effectively brings light from the edge and disperses it in the desired profile.

Accent 360™ was designed with down and step lighting in mind, by providing a uniform soft glow that fully illuminates any subject. The slim design eliminates the need for large housing units that are normally built into the ceiling or walls. Now the space required to install lighting can be reduced from almost a foot, to just a couple inches.

SID Stop in New England

On Thursday, November 8th, Fusion Optix VP, Dr. Zane Coleman took part in a panel for a SID New England meeting held on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA.  Dr. Coleman, along with colleagues in the display industry, fronted the panel to discuss and field questions on LED back light unit (BLU) market trends. The panel argued that while LEDs are beginning to take a chunk of the BLU market away from cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL), and boast advantages such as high color gamut and high contrast ratio, they also have run into some challenges like sub-par performance and high pricing.  Still, the share for LED BLUs is predicted to gain ground each year through the end of 2010 to own more than 35% of the market.

In his work with Fusion Optix, Dr. Coleman is working to ease the transition to LEDs in the back light industry. The modules developed here are thinner because of an edge-lit design. The LED count is kept low without sacrificing uniformity because the optical films and wave guides used are developed with high quality polymer materials with advanced optical properties.

On the (Laser) Cutting Edge

Fusion Optix now offers full LED system solutions, including custom light guide development and precision finishing of optical films, sheet and lenses.  Recently, our engineering department installed laser-based prototyping capabilities at our Cambridge, MA headquarters to handle requests for custom cut parts.  Fusion Optix employs a unique approach to solving LED systems design and adoption issues by utilizing our patented light management film and sheet technology, augmented with the development of advanced waveguide, LED assembly and driver technologies. Our system solutions facilitate the transition from traditional light sources, such as fluorescent and halogen bulbs, to more energy efficient and environmentally friendly LEDs.
Our in-house capabilities also include support for housing and fixture designs for LED backlight modules and LED lighting modules.

Custom cut LED lighting lenses as well as die cut film for both lighting and display applications are now available.  We are able to produce lenses for fixtures as small as MR-16 to as large as PAR.  Our backlight modules range in size from 10.4 to 24 inches and feature a new ultra-thin design.  Our products can be ordered by calling into our office, 617-649-1010, or by emailing to info@fusionoptix.com

Fusion Optix Web 2.0

Fusion Optix has done some housekeeping on fusionoptix.com and has redesigned the layout of the site. Our new toolbar now better reflects what we are trying to achieve in both the Lighting and Display industries. Click to see what our team of engineers has accomplished in its work with LED Systems, including backlight modules, and LED assemblies & drivers. The new OEM Components section gives a better understanding of what is now available on the market from Fusion Optix. Finally, check our corporate pages to see our partnering philosophies, IP standards, or to drop us a line.
